About the Artist:

Well it’s like this… I have been playing guitar and hearing songs in my head since I was a wee person. I studied music in college and I have played in bands for years. I have always had the hope that one day I would quit my day job and support my family making music and touring the world. Not only that but, more importantly, I really believe that writing and performing music is one reasons God has put breath in my lungs. So… after many years of half-hearted efforts and not working on my chops as I should have (that means not practicing), I am finally giving my musical thoughts the expression that they require. Plus, I can sense the specter of old age and decrepitude creeping up on me, (actually it’s more of a steady jog than a creep), and I don’t want to leave earth with my music still in me. So, with the help of some other talented artisans, (Thank you Matt, Rakim and Dawn) I have created this site as a platform to let people hear my music and check out the every growing itinerary of the John Pearson Incident.

What is the JPI?

Well, it used to be the name of the 3-piece rock band that I have been a member of for several years(we still play together, but I think a name change is imminent). Now, its place to go to hear my original music, and get information on the various music projects I am involved in. I also have a calendar so you can know where and when I will be performing. Right now I have 5 musical projects that I am involved in:

I do a 90 minute show for nursing homes and skilled care facilities, that includes a 60 minute group performance and 30 minutes of playing for residents one-to-one in their rooms. I have been doing this for almost three years at several local facilities (Metro Health, Algart Care Center) and I never get tired of doing these kinds of shows. I have met a lot of great people in these facilities and these types of gigs are a lot of fun.

I perform in a two piece combo called "Gruve Tonic". Mike Mahoney plays congas, and I play guitar and vocals. We perform for private parties, coffee houses, and clubs. We perform many types of American pop music such as...As Time Goes By, Hotel California, I Shot The Sheriff, You Are My Sunshine, I Only Have Eyes For You, Motown classics, Seal. As well as some of my original tunes. Mike and I used to go the same church and he had suggested that we do these kind of gigs years. I was working 60-plus hours a week
back then, and I just didn't have the time. Now that things have changed a bit in our lives; I am quite happy to get the chance to perform Mike as a member of "Gruve Tonic" Always a good time.

GPS

Every Sunday evening I perform songs as a part of the Ministry team at the GPS church service. The service is held at and is part of the United Methodist Church of the Savior on 2537 Lee Rd in Cleveland Hgts, 216- 321-8880. If you are looking to re-connect with God in a non-traditional church environment. This is a service that you might want to consider. Pastor Dan does a good job of teaching the word and the people are very friendly.

Private Lessons & The Band with no name (sort of)

I also perform in a rock band with my long-time musical partners-in-crime bassist/Joe Alexander, and drummer/ Mike Majetka. We play out 2 or 3 times a year, as our schedules allow. Every now and then we talk about changing the name, so we might stay the JPI or we might change our name to something new. Who knows? I'll keep you posted. Just recently, I have also started teaching in-home guitar lessons.
Beginners welcomed!

What kind of music do you play? A little bit of this and a little bit of that. It depends on where I'm performing. I tend to write in the reggae/pop style of the Police and Bob Marley. However if you listen closely you might be able to hear the many other influences that have inspired me (Neil Young, Motown, Steely Dan, Donald Fagan, Marshall Crenshaw, Paul Simon, George Gershwin, West Side Story, Keith Green, U2, Parliament, Rage Against the Machine, Seal, and many others. As far as covers go, it depends on where I'm performing, but again, I cant escape my influences. So, wherever you may see or here me play, there is a good chance you will hear me play some Motown classics, some Jazz standards pop music, and a little reggae music.
